Research and CPD
We are very excited about the potential for this form of CPD to develop teaching and learning across the college in the medium to long term. The over-arching aim of the process is to encourage teachers to innovate and take risks with colleagues in a supportive environment, enabling us to share more widely some of the outstanding practice that exists at Bottisham.
At Bottisham Village College, we are making evidence-based lesson study our main focus for CPD
We used the College Improvement Plan and quality assurance data to identify the following key areas of focus for this, our first year of Lesson Study:
1. Fostering student-centred learning
2. Developing/supporting literacy
3. Setting high expectations – challenge
4. Developing positive behaviours for learning
5. Developing resilient learners
The culmination of Lesson Study 2016-17 at BVC was a marketplace event on Monday 24th April, at which staff had an opportunity to share the findings of their research as shown below.
Staff shared their findings and talked passionately about teaching and learning. Feedback from the afternoon was very positive. A selection of colleagues’ quotes can be found below:
“Getting the chance to observe different lessons and see different teaching styles is something I’ve found hugely beneficial”
“In truth, the whole process has been a shot in the arm and, ultimately, improved my teaching.”
“Thank you for the practical activities that I can now use in lessons. I can’t wait to try them out!”
We are very much looking forward to stage two of lesson study next year, when we can build on the successes of this.
