SLE designated specialism: Leadership of CPD
Bottisham Village College
Portfolio of experience, skills and knowledge
I have worked at Bottisham Village College since 1994; for the past two years as Deputy Principal. My responsibilities have included Head of Creative Design faculty, development of student voice, extended schools coordinator, and teacher research coordinator.
Through our partnership with the Faculty of Education, SUPER (Schools and University Partnership in educational research) I completed a Masters in Education in 2011, researching the impact of student voice in whole school improvement and completed an action research case study on teacher engagement in school based research.
Through my Masters and leading aspects of CPD in school I learned that there are many positive aspects to teachers being involved in collaborative action research: increased self-esteem, confidence, motivation as well as supporting the development of strong professional relationships within the school community.
As part of a major education reform project with the Cambridge Faculty of Education and Cambridge International Exams I was involved in visiting two Kazakhstan schools, supporting teachers' professional development. This has now evolved into a very successful internship programme involving three local schools.
