I have worked as the subject co-ordinator for Science at Ditton Lodge Primary School for four years, but was previously the Head of Science at Scaltback Middle School. I have had experience of teaching science across KS2, 3, 4 and 5, within Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, as well as being a year 6 teacher for the last 4 years.

During my time as a primary practitioner, I have taken a special interest in the accurate assessment and moderation of writing within KS2.

I have worked within my own school and our partnership school to support and lead colleagues in these areas.

Portfolio of experience, skills and knowledge

I have been leading English since being at Fordham Primary, a school that is growing into a two-form-entry school, for 4 years and have made many successful changes. I have experienced teaching across KS2 within Cambridgeshire and London and previously been PE, ICT, French and Music co-ordinator. Following a year as a temporary Assistant Head Teacher, I was given a TLR to focus on mentoring NQTs and student teachers; I particularly enjoy sharing and developing good practice across a range of settings. I have led a number of strategy meetings for our staff, including teaching assistants, in demonstrating outstanding marking and feedback as well as leading moderating of writing for local schools

During my time as English lead, I have taken a special interest in developing and delivering enriching learning experiences to children using high quality children’s literature at the heart of the curriculum, embedding a Reading for Pleasure philosophy. I have established the Power of Reading approach where writing for a purpose through studying a book has raised attainment in both reading and writing over the past four years. Successfully, I introduced grammar sessions for the whole school which helped raise standards in this area and have written ‘Fordham Essentials’ for each year group that ensures grammar is identified in pupils’ sustained written work having highlighted this area as a concern.  As well as collaborating on a range of projects including the assessment of writing across the school, I have led writing moderations and developed standardisation for the new curriculum.
